9/11 and FBI-Public record proves inside job!

(1/5) > >>

jimd3100:
Two of the hijackers were reported to be living with an FBI informant. Lets look into this interesting fact. By ways of the public record..............

First off, the CIA were tracking the hijackers and knew they were mujihadeen and associated with so called terrorists. They deliberately let them into the U.S.

"A former landlord of two of the September 11 hijackers was an FBI informant at the time, knowledgeable sources confirm to CNN."
http://archives.cnn.com/2002/US/09/11/ar911.hijackers.landlord/

"U.S. intelligence officials said that in January of 2000, when Almidhar and Alhazmi attended a meeting of known terrorists in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, that fact was communicated by the CIA to the FBI."
http://archives.cnn.com/2002/US/09/11/ar911.hijackers.landlord/

So the high ups in the FBI were told of these guys already, but the FBI wants to play dumb. Soon they will just flat out show corruption.

"The FBI contends the agency was never told about the two men before August 23 and says it can find no record of any such communication between CIA and FBI to show the information might have been overlooked. The FBI has maintained that position in its dealings with congressional investigators and has asked the CIA to document, if possible, having sent word earlier."
http://archives.cnn.com/2002/US/09/11/ar911.hijackers.landlord/

They said that because they know damn well it wasn't "documented". And Later the DOJ IG had it's own whitewash report which admitted this.....
"In addition to formal methods of communicating by the CIA to the FBI, much information can be shared with the FBI informally.....In addition, meetings are sometimes held to discuss a matter or a piece of intelligence that is of value to both agencies.....However, they said that not every telephone call or conversation was documented."http://www.fas.org/irp/agency/doj/oig/fbi-911/chap5.pdf

But it's irrelevant because if you read closely the DOJ IG whitewash report there is your proof the CIA exchanged info with the FBI even as far back as Jan 2000..... from the report...
"It appears that this first Malaysia meetings cable was provided to the FBI.
This January 5 threat update reflected an almost verbatim recitation of
portions of the CIA's first Malaysia meetings cable, including the same
spelling mistake in reference to a particular place in Malaysia, which indicates
that the CIA provided a copy of the first Malaysia meetings cable to the FBI. However; we were not able to determine who in the FBI received this
information from the CIA or who edited the January 5 threat update."http://www.fas.org/irp/agency/doj/oig/fbi-911/chap5.pdf

And frankly not only was it documented.... the FBI was asking the CIA about these guys and one CIA member called "James" covered his ass on this......
"James wrote these e-mails in response to an e-mail from another CIA employee who was detailed to the FBI SIOC. That employee reported on the morning of January 6 that he had been asked by an FBI employee for the latest on Mihdhar. James responded in a series of e-mails that he had already briefed the FBI. The final e-mail by James sets forth the details of his briefings."http://www.fas.org/irp/agency/doj/oig/fbi-911/chap5.pdf

Well, what does "James" have to say?
"As previously mentioned, James told the CIA OIG that he had no recollection of these events. He declined to be interviewed by us."
http://www.fas.org/irp/agency/doj/oig/fbi-911/chap5.pdf

How about that huh?

"Some members of the congressional committee investigating the intelligence failures and the September 11 attacks knew about the relationship between the landlord and the FBI, and the point will probably come up when the panel holds public hearings, expected later this month."
http://archives.cnn.com/2002/US/09/11/ar911.hijackers.landlord/

Public hearings! Hooray! That should be real interesting! But guess what?

"The Federal Bureau of Investigation had a confidential informer who rented rooms in California to two of the Sept. 11 hijackers, but the bureau is resisting a request from the Congressional committee investigating the attacks to interview the informer and his F.B.I. handler, government officials said."
http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9A04E7DA153BF935A35753C1A9649C8B63

"Several officials said the F.B.I. had rebuffed requests to make the informer available to the committee and would not authorize the agent who was his contact to testify."

"But Congressional investigators say the F.B.I.'s efforts to block their inquiry makes them skeptical of the bureau's assertions about the informer. They also say the Justice Department has joined the F.B.I. in fighting the Congressional requests for information related to the matter, escalating tensions."

The fight over access to the informer is the latest bitter dispute between the committee and the Bush administration and the intelligence and law enforcement agencies that are the subject of the committee's investigation"
http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9A04E7DA153BF935A35753C1A9649C8B63

In other words Mueller and Ashcroft by order of G Bush are obstructing justice and investigation into 9/11.

But they were unsuccessful as far as the FBI agent goes. He did testify. And we are not allowed to know what he said. It is his testimony that those famous 28 pages redacted were mostly about. But we can piece some of it together.

"Separately, documents made public in federal court in Alexandria, Va., late last month showed that the Justice Department sought unsuccessfully to prevent F.B.I. agents, and the bureau's director, Robert S. Mueller III, from testifying publicly before the joint inquiry."

"Mr. Midhar and Mr. Alhazmi, who were among the hijackers on the American Airlines plane that crashed into the Pentagon, were identified as Qaeda operatives by the C.I.A. in January 2001. But the C.I.A. did not ask the State Department to place their names on a watch list intended to prevent entry into the United States until late August. By then, they were both in the country."
http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9A04E7DA153BF935A35753C1A9649C8B63

That was intentional BTW. So what about this FBI Agent testifying,(that Ashcroft and Mueller tried to prevent) who was the handler of this informant?......

"On October 9, members of the special congressional committee investigating the 9/11 attacks met privately with a key FBI witness. The next day, panel members were to meet in open session with CIA Director George Tenet and FBI Director Robert Mueller. After the FBI agent finished testifying, the open meetings with Tenet and Mueller were summarily canceled."
http://www.usnews.com/usnews/news/features/saudi_021129.htm

Awww...to bad. I wonder why they canceled those public hearings? And BTW notice it said members of the committee, not the committee. The members would presumeable be the chairmen, Porter Goss and Bob Graham. Who else? Who knows? Someone tried to leak out at least a little bit, (probably staffers from Graham, as he later wrote a book complaining how he wanted this information public.) Goss would later become head of the CIA when Tenet got his reward, I mean retirement.

"Several members were "appalled" at what informed sources described as the "explosive" testimony of Special Agent Steven Butler, who recently retired from the FBI after his final posting in the bureau's San Diego field office."
http://www.usnews.com/usnews/news/features/saudi_021129.htm

I guess it just isn't any of our business. I wonder what this FBI Agent who coincidently works in counter terrorism and who is the handler for the informant who was giving room and board to the two hijackers being monitored by the CIA, had to say?

FBI HQ in Washington were warned to spread the word about suspicious Arabs at flight training school by an Agent in Arizona, and they refused to spread that word. FBI HQ in Washington refused to allow the MN agents to check out Zacarias Moussaoui. And what else?...The Agents name is Steve Butler....

"Government officials told U.S. News that Butler disclosed that he had been monitoring a flow of Saudi Arabian money that wound up in the hands of two of the 9/11 hijackers. The two men had rented a room from a man Butler had used as a confidential informant, the sources say. According to officials familiar with his account, Butler said that he had alerted his superiors about the money flows but the warning went nowhere. "Butler is claiming ... that people [in the FBI] didn't follow up," says a congressional source. Adds another: "He saw a pattern, a trail, and he told his supervisors, but it ended there."

In a conversation outside his home in the gated Rancho Penasquitos community in San Diego, Butler told U.S. News, "It's very sensitive stuff.'' Wearing a Buffalo Bills cap, Butler said, "I'd love to talk to you guys," but added that he couldn't without permission from the Justice Department.
http://www.usnews.com/usnews/news/features/saudi_021129.htm

I wonder what this money flow he was checking into was about........

When these two hijackers got to America, the person who picked them up and actually moved them into this informants apartment was Omar al-Bayoumi, an agent of Saudi Arabia. He even paid their first months rent and opened up a bank account for them. The money was reimbursed into his own account. The DOJ report even admits it. I wonder where the money comes from?

"Newsweek said, however, the FBI uncovered financial records showing payments to the family of al-Bayoumi from a Washington bank account held in the name of Princess Haifa Al-Faisal, wife of the Saudi ambassador to the United States and daughter of the late King Faisal."[/b]
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,71273,00.html

And the name of that Saudi ambassador she is married to is Prince Bandar. Also known as Bandar Bush because of his close friendship with our fearless leader. Princess Haifa Al-Faisal also happens to be the sister of Saudi Arabias intelligence chief Prince Turki al-Faisal. When Bandar retired as ambassador this al-Faisal guy took his place......
"Prince Bandar bin Sultan, the 22-year Saudi ambassador to the US, the glad-handing "dean of the Washington diplomatic corps," and confidant and partner to successive US presidential administrations, has resigned. He has been replaced by Prince Turki al-Faisal, the former head of Saudi Arabian intelligence (and the current ambassador to Britain).

Turki al-Faisal's own ties to Washington and Langley, and throughout the intelligence world are legendary. Prince Turki has been intimately involved with the CIA, Pakistan's ISI (a virtual branch of the CIA)"
http://onlinejournal.org/Special_Reports/072305Chin/072305chin.html

So, G Bush good friend Saudi Ambassador Bandar was evidently helping to finance the hijackers. And it was G Bush allowing the leader of the "AL Qaeda" in Guantanamo to leave the U.S. immediately after 9/11.....doesn't look very good for him.....so much for just being a puppet. He's involved up to his eyeballs....
http://forum.prisonplanet.com/index.php?topic=19511.msg72768#msg72768

The al-Bayoumi guy was working for the Saudi Government. He left the country in July of 2001. But what is never reported anywhere, is evidently he had a replacement that the FBI admits in this recently unclassified document was working for Saudi Intelligence......

"The possibility of being affiliated with the Saudi Arabian Government or the Saudi Arabian Intelligence Service is supported by listing his employment in 1992 as theParkwood Apartment complex in July 2001 could indicate he succeeded Omar AI-Bayoumi and may be undertaking activities on behalf of the Government of Saudi Arabia."
http://intelfiles.egoplex.com/2001-10-03-FBI-penttbomb-bayoumi.pdf

So it appears the ones behind the 9/11 attacks are the ones involved in the Soviet-afghan war. Which means..mossad-Isi-CIA-Saudi Intelligence.

So whatever happened with the informant? The DOJ refused to allow him to testify to congress. When they did their own internal review of "intelligence failures" surely they would let themselves talk to him right?
Nope, they didn't even interview the FBI Agent.....from the DOJ IG report, where Agent Butler is referred to as "Stan".....

"After his retirement from the FBI, "Stan" declined repeated requests
for an OIG interview. The OIG does not have authority,to subpoena individuals and cannot compel former Department of Justice employees to submit to an interview."
http://www.fas.org/irp/agency/doj/oig/fbi-911/chap5.pdf

And the informant?

The OIG was not able to interview the asset. The Joint Intelligence Committee Inquiry had attempted to interview the asset without success. The Committee then submitted interrogatories that the asset declined to answer, asserting his Fifth Amendment privilege. The asset indicated through his attorney that if subpoenaed by the Committee, he would not testify without a grant of immunity.
http://www.fas.org/irp/agency/doj/oig/fbi-911/chap5.pdf

Well, let's hope the FBI puts the hammer down on this guy, we need to get to the bottom of this....but turns out they decide to reward him. Reward him with your money. Tax money..........

"In July 2003, the asset was given a $100,000 payment and closed as an asset."
http://www.fas.org/irp/agency/doj/oig/fbi-911/chap5.pdf

And in July 2003 was when this investigation was being done. FBI director R Mueller took our tax money to pay off the landlord/informant to buy his silence.

Why isn't R Mueller in prison?

stangrof:
Good afternoon, great article! very useful . bye

jimd3100:
So the FBI had an informant housing the alleged hijackers, Almidhar and Alhazmi, after the CIA who were monitoring them let them into the country on purpose. Now lets meet an informant for the CIA who was handling several other alleged hijackers.

http://www.accessmylibrary.com/coms2/summary_0286-8937523_ITM
HAMBURG, Germany _ Nearly two years before the Sept. 11 hijackings, the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency began persistent efforts to recruit as an informer a Syrian-born Hamburg businessman with links to al-Qaida and the key hijackers, the Chicago Tribune has learned.

The CIA's attempts to enlist Mamoun Darkazanli were initiated in late 1999, at a time when three of the four Hamburg students who would later pilot the hijacked planes were first learning of the hijacking plot at an al-Qaida training camp in Afghanistan.

Darkazanli, 44, has acknowledged knowing the three pilots, Mohamed Atta, Marwan Al-Shehhi and Ziad Jarrah, with whom he attended the same radical Hamburg mosque, Al Quds, and shared several common friends in this city's sizable but insular Muslim community......

But the disclosure that the CIA was seeking to turn Darkazanli into a spy during the time the initial hijacking plans were being laid represents the earliest and deepest set of U.S. intelligence footprints outside the hijackers' window.

In December 1999 the CIA representative in Hamburg, posing as an American diplomat attached to the U.S. Consulate, appeared at the headquarters of the Hamburg state domestic intelligence agency, the LFV, that is responsible for tracking terrorists and domestic extremists.

According to a source with firsthand knowledge of the events, the CIA representative told his local counterparts that his agency believed Darkazanli had knowledge of an unspecified terrorist plot and could be "turned" against his al-Qaida comrades.
"He said, `Darkazanli knows a lot,' " the source recalled.

Darkazanli's name had first surfaced the year before in the U.S. investigation of al-Qaida's 1998 bombings of the U.S. Embassies in Kenya and Tanzania that killed 224 people and injured thousands.

Around the same time, Darkazanli's name had popped up in connection with another alleged al-Qaida figure, Mamdouh Mahmud Salim, a 44-year-old Sudanese who is currently in jail in New York awaiting trial in the embassy bombing case.

Salim, who is also accused by federal prosecutors of attempting to help bin Laden obtain enriched uranium for use in a nuclear weapon, was arrested in Munich in September 1998 at the request of the United States.

Investigators learned that Salim, a resident of the United Arab Emirates, held an account at a Hamburg bank. The co-signatory on the account was Mamoun Darkazanli, whose home number had been programmed into Salim's cell phone..

...By the end of 1999 the Darkazanli investigation had produced little of value. Now the Americans were saying that if the Germans couldn't put Darkazanli behind bars, they wanted to turn him into their informer.

The LFV representatives explained to the CIA man, who had been in his post for less than six months, that German law forbids foreign intelligence services, including those deemed to be "friendly," from conducting operations or recruiting informers inside German borders.

Any attempt to recruit Darkazanli on behalf of the CIA would have to be made by operatives of the LFV. In early 2000, around the time the hijack pilots were returning to Hamburg from Afghanistan, an LFV agent casually approached Darkazanli to ask if he was interested in becoming a spy.

Darkazanli replied that he was just a businessman who knew nothing about al-Qaida or terrorism. When the Germans informed the CIA representative that the approach had failed, the man refused to accept their verdict that Darkazanli was not recruitable.
"He was not happy," one source said. "He kept saying, `It must be possible.' "

When the LFV asked for information it could use to counter Darkazanli's claims that he knew nothing about terrorism or al-Qaida, the CIA demurred. What the LFV got instead was a CIA textbook lecture on the recruiting of agents.

.....By the late summer of 2000, Atta, Al-Shehhi and Jarrah had departed Hamburg for Florida, where they were learning to fly single-engine airplanes.

Intensifying its efforts to turn Darkazanli into an informer, a frustrated CIA abandoned the Hamburg LFV and took its case directly to federal German intelligence officials in Berlin.

"Another attempt by the Americans to get somebody to recruit Darkazanli," one source said.

Whether yet another approach was made to Darkazanli by the federal domestic intelligence service, the BFV, could not be determined. Darkazanli did not respond to a registered letter from the Chicago Tribune requesting an interview.

Immediately after Sept. 11, however, American intelligence operatives and FBI agents descended on Hamburg in force. According to a senior German intelligence official, the FBI undertook its own surveillance of Darkazanli.

That surveillance would have been illegal under German law. But with the horror of more than 3,000 deaths at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a Pennsylvania field dominating the world news, the Germans looked the other way.

"I don't judge it," the senior official said.

Darkazanli's name first surfaced publicly two weeks after the Sept. 11 attacks, when the "Mamoun Darkazanli Import-Export Company" appeared on the Bush administration's initial list of individuals and organizations suspected of involvement in terrorism.

The company is evidently defunct. No incorporation records for the company are on file at the Hamburg courthouse, and sources said it had not done enough business over the years to support Darkazanli and his wife.

When the German federal prosecutor, Kay Nehm, announced an investigation into possible money laundering by Darkazanli and his company on behalf of al-Qaida, the news that Darkazanli was in trouble spread quickly through al-Qaida's network.

In Madrid, Spanish police listening in on Imad Yarkas's cell phone overheard a conversation in which Abu Nabil, the leader of a Syrian extremist organization known as the Fighting Vanguard, warned Yarkas that Darkazanli had caught the "flu" that was going around.

To the reporters who flocked to his apartment in well-kept Hamburg neighborhood, Darkazanli admitted having known Mohamed Atta, Marwan Al-Shehhi and Ziad Jarrah as fellow worshipers at the downtown Al Quds mosque. But Darkazanli declared that he knew nothing about terrorism or the Sept. 11 plot.

...Two days after the Sept. 11 attacks, Darkazanli had been brought in for questioning by the German federal police, and his apartment thoroughly searched. The police, Darkazanli said, had found nothing. His inclusion on the Bush administration's list of designated terrorist entities was just "a big misunderstanding."

The absence of documents in Darkazanli's flat was partly explained on Oct. 31, 2001, when a young Serbian immigrant with a record of convictions for burglary walked into the fortresslike headquarters of the Hamburg police.

The man presented astonished detectives with a bag full of documents that appeared to have been taken from Darkazanli's files. After accepting the purloined documents, the police arrested the man for burglary.

According to the burglar's story, he had discovered the documents stashed in a small summer house outside Hamburg that he had broken into. He had first gone with the documents to the U.S. Consulate in Hamburg, where it had been suggested that he take them to the police.

But when police asked the burglar to show them the house where he had found the documents, he couldn't locate it.

"We all thought, `CIA,' " one German investigator said.

The CIA representative in Hamburg, who was recalled to Washington in July, declined to comment last week. Since the arrival of his successor, relations with the CIA are described by German intelligence agents as "more collegial."

Darkazanli's lawyer, Andreas Beurskens, said he had advised his client not to speak with the media until the police investigation is complete.

But as the Sept. 11 investigations on both sides of the Atlantic have progressed, more links have emerged between Darkazanli and al-Qaida.

One is the disclosure that Darkazanli received at least $16,000 from Mohamed Kaleb Kalaje Zouaydi, a wealthy Spanish-Syrian arrested in Madrid in April and accused of funneling hundreds of thousands of dollars to al-Qaida and other radical Islamic organizations.

Another is the discovery by German investigators that Darkazanli was previously employed by Abdul-Matin Tatari, an Aleppo-born textile exporter in Hamburg whose own links to the Sept. 11 hijackers are under investigation by German police.

In view of what the expanded investigation was producing, one source said, "the situation for Darkazanli might become more complicated."
(c) 2002, Chicago Tribune.

So if he wasn't "protected" he'd be in prison. And he was arrested....but....

Germany arrests 'al-Qaeda backer'

A Syrian-born German has been arrested in Hamburg on suspicion of helping to finance Osama Bin Laden's al-Qaeda network, German authorities have said.
Mamoun Darkazanli was detained on an extradition request from Spain.

He is accused of being a key al-Qaeda figure and providing logistical and financial support for the group since 1997 in Spain, Germany and the UK.

If convicted in Spain, he could face 12 years in prison. Mr Darkazanli is expected to contest his extradition.

A court in Hamburg said Mr Darkazanli was arrested after the Madrid authorities submitted a request for his extradition to Spain.

"He is believed have been the constant interlocutor and assistant of Osama Bin Laden in Germany and to have been particularly involved in the transfer of documents and the payment of bills," court spokeswoman Sabine Westphalen said.

She said the Spanish authorities suspect him of involvement in the purchase of a ship for Bin Laden.

After the September 2001 attacks, the US froze the assets of Mr Darkazanli's trading company, saying it was a front for terrorism.

He is also alleged to have had ties to the 11 September hijackers who were based in Hamburg.

Germans Nab Qaeda Terror Suspect

BERLIN, Oct. 15, 2004

(AP) German authorities said Friday they have arrested an al Qaeda suspect wanted by Spain on charges that he helped finance the terror network for years.

Mamoun Darkazanli, 46, a Syrian-German dual national, was taken into custody in Hamburg on Friday on a Spanish warrant and is being held for possible extradition, city judicial spokeswoman Sabine Westphalen told The Associated Press.

Darkazanli was questioned by German police shortly after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks on the United States when it emerged that three of the suicide hijackers lived and studied in Hamburg. He was freed for lack of evidence and continued to live in the German port city.

Spanish authorities allege that Darkazanli was "one of the key figures of the al Qaeda terror network" and "the permanent contact person and assistant of Osama bin Laden in Germany," Hamburg authorities said in a statement.

He is accused of giving logistical and financial support to the network in Spain, Germany and Britain since 1997, the statement said.

German authorities arrested him because he was a flight risk, the statement said. It did not elaborate.

Darkazanli did not respond to the charges after his arrest, but said he would contest extradition, the statement said.

Darkazanli is alleged to have been involved in the purchase of a ship for al Qaeda leader bin Laden, handling administrative details and paying bills. He also allegedly traveled to Kosovo in late 2000 on an al Qaeda mission, Hamburg authorities said.

He was among 35 suspects — including bin Laden himself — who were indicted in September 2003 by Baltasar Garzon, a Spanish judge investigating al Qaeda.

If he was a "protected asset" of the CIA, he wont be in jail long...and he wasn't......

'Al-Qaeda man' wins German appeal
A German-Syrian businessman suspected of funding al-Qaeda has been freed hours after Germany's highest court ruled his arrest warrant was invalid.
Mamoun Darkazanli, 46, who was fighting extradition to Spain, was released from custody in Hamburg, where he had been in detention since last October.

The court ruled the new European arrest warrant violated German law.

The case was a test of the new warrant introduced last year to speed up the handover of terror suspects.

Mr Darkazanli appears in a 1999 wedding video with two of the three 11 September 2001 suicide hijackers who had lived in Hamburg.

Mr Darkazanli has not been charged in Germany, whose constitution prohibits the extradition of its own citizens.

German Justice Minister Brigitte Zypries said the ruling by the federal constitutional court was "a blow for the government in its efforts and fight against terrorism".

Spanish wanted list

After the 2001 attacks, the US froze the assets of Mr Darkazanli's Import-Export Company, saying it was a front for terrorism. He is among 41 suspects, including Osama Bin Laden, indicted by Spanish Judge Baltasar Garzon.

Correspondents say all other suspects in Germany facing extradition under similar warrants will have to be released on bail, and that the German parliament will have to pass a new law if suspects are to be held in jail on EU warrants.
Mr Darkazanli's lawyers argued that handing him over under the European arrest warrant would be against the German constitution.

He has always denied any involvement in terrorism, saying he only knew the 9/11 hijackers by sight.

A spokesman for the European Commission voiced regret that Germany had failed to implement the arrest warrant and urged it to bring its national legislation into line with EU policy.

But Martin Selmayr also insisted that the arrest warrant was still valid.

"From a first reading, it's a judgment that declares null and void the German implementation law, not the European arrest warrant," he said.

In other developments, an al-Qaeda suspect being held at the US detention camp at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, has been extradited to Spain.

Moroccan-born Lahcen Ikrassrien is accused of being a member of an al-Qaeda cell that allegedly helped plan the 11 September attacks.

So is he still around free? Yup....while his buddies, get kidnapped by the CIA and tortured he's left alone...kind of obvious isn't it?

Germany Closes Investigation of Al-Qaeda Suspect

Associated Press
Saturday, July 15, 2006; A15

BERLIN, July 14 -- German prosecutors said Friday that they had closed their investigation of a German Syrian businessman accused in Spain of being a key al-Qaeda figure.

Federal prosecutors said their investigation had failed to confirm suspicions that Mamoun Darkazanli "founded, along with other people, an organization in Germany with the aim of giving logistical and financial support to the terrorist aims of the international network of violent Islamists."

Darkazanli is among 41 suspects, including Osama bin Laden, indicted by Spanish Judge Baltasar Garzon, who has been investigating al-Qaeda.

Last year, Germany's highest court blocked his extradition to Spain.

Darkazanli appears in a 1999 wedding video with two of the three Sept. 11, 2001, suicide pilots who studied in Hamburg along with lead hijacker Mohamed Atta

knightrd:
This reminds me of Oswald and how he was an informant for the FBI and J Edgar Hoover regarding the anti-Castro rebels.

Biffa22:
This connection to Saudi funding is what the 28 redacted pages of the Senate investigation of 911 (prior to the 911 commission report) reffered to. Former Senator Bob Graham, the chairman of this investigation tried to pass an ammenment at a senate hearing to get the information released to the public. There is a transcript of this here:
http://www.fas.org/irp/congress/2003_cr/s102803.html

'This report makes a very compelling case, based on the information submitted
by the agencies themselves, that there was a foreign government which
was complicitous in the actions leading up to September 11, at least as
it relates to some of the terrorists who were present in one part of
the United States.
There are two big questions yet to be answered. Why would this
government have provided the level of assistance--financial,
logistical, housing, support service--to some of the terrorists and not
to all of the terrorists? We asked that question. There has been no
response.
My own hypothesis--and I will describe it as that--is that in fact
similar assistance was being provided to all or at least most of the
terrorists. The difference is that we happened, because of a set of
circumstances which are contained in these 28 censored pages, to have
an unusual window on a few of the terrorists. We did not have a similar
window on others. Therefore, it will take more effort to determine if
they were, in fact, receiving that assistance. That effort has, in my
judgment, been grossly insufficiently pursued.'

It appears likely that the leaked information which allowed at least some of these details to emerge, would have come from Senator Bob Graham's office as Jimd says. Of course it was the wife of a close friend of George W. Bush that was funding at least two of the hijackers. It was only because the FBI actually had an informant living with these two that we know this much, as Senator Graham says in the above quote.

Senator Bob Graham wrote a book about this investigation, which I have not yey read, however there is an interview with him at the following link which re-affirms his comments:

http://www.motherjones.com/news/qa/2004/11/11_401.html

‘MJ.com: How cooperative were President Bush and his administration with your inquiry?

BG: They started out with a lot of representations of how helpful they would be, in the same way that they did to the citizens’ 9/11 Commission that followed us. But when you actually started to dig close to sensitive information -- the most sensitive being the role of the Saudis -- they began to erect barriers.

MJ.com: Looking at the 9/11 Commission report that was completed after your inquiry, how did the findings of the two compare?

BG: In the main, it was very consistent. The basic intelligence failures that we found, and the recommendations to correct those failures, were largely adopted in the 9/11 report…

In the matter of findings, the biggest disagreement we had with the 9/11 Commission was on the role of Saudi Arabia. We found that there was compelling evidence that the Saudis played an active role in assisting two of the terrorists in Southern California, including being the means of substantial funding for those two terrorists. And this question of whether their support was limited to those two, or may have extended to others of the 17 terrorists, is still an unsolved mystery because the FBI did such an inept job of conducting that investigation. Whether we got it right or the 9/11’s softer evaluation of the role of the Saudis was right, we won’t know until after the administration makes available more information to the American people.’
